The flag of Ogun State has once again flown high due to the academic excellence it is noted for amongst its equals in the nation. This time around, the gateway state emerged champions at the 2014 Whizkids Competition organized by Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) during its recently concluded conference held at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu State between 23rd and 25th of July, 2014.
Ogun State representative at the National IT WhizKids competition, Iganmode Grammar School Ota emerged as the winner of the computer-based test of the Whiz Kid competition for secondary schools while Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta finished as 1st runner-up of the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology competition for tertiary institutions.
It will be interesting to note that both Afolabi Oluwajuwon and Bello Adewole that represented Iganmode Grammar School, Ota at the competition never missed any question thrown at them. They had earlier defeated participants from both public and private secondary school to snatch the title as the State champion and went ahead to represent the State at the zonal level to emerged the first runner up. Not satisfied with playing second fiddle,the Whiz kids came out tops at the highly competitive national level.
The students from Iganmode Grammar School were presented with the star prize of desktop computer and printer, two laptops and two electronic Tablet pre-installed with educational curriculum materials with internet subscription each while Akinrotoye Ayomide, a 400-level Computer Science student who represented Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta was presented with a laptop computer and a tablet.
While congratulating the students, the proud and delighted Chairman of the NCS, Ogun State chapter, Dr. 'Bukola Onashoga (Mrs.) said she was not surprised at the emergence of the state contingent because Ogun State is always noted for academic excellence. However, she is notifying the public of the plan of NCS Ogun state chapter to kick-start a COMPUTER BRAINS CLUB for both primary and secondary school pupils in order to sustain the high level academic performance.
